Fast food giant Burger King has inked a licensing deal with ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston whereby Lamb Weston is rolling out a retail line of microwaveable Burger King brand french fries at select retailers in the United States, including Walmart.
King Krinks seasoned crinkle-cut fries was to be the first to market in September, soon followed by King Kolossatz extra-large fries, and King Wedgez seasoned potato wedges. The price point for each 4.5-ounce box will vary among retailers.
Once out of the microwave oven and with a quick rip of the top, the box becomes an easily transportable container reminiscent of Burger King’s signature FRYPOD® container. Suitable for snacking or sharing, the products offer the convenience of microwaving while maintaining the taste and texture of crispy fries.
“This licensing deal, brokered by Broadstreet Licensing Group, gives Burger King Corp. the ability to take our ‘Have It Your Way’ brand promise beyond our restaurants and engage customers in a new way,” said John Schaufelberger, senior vice president, global product marketing and innovation, Burger King Corp. “The innovative and portable design of the packaging makes these fries perfect for an on-the-go snack.”
“Burger King’s tremendous brand strength and reputation for great-tasting french fries give this new line of King retail fries a head start in the marketplace,” added Sharon Miller, vice president of retail sales for Eagle, Idaho-headquartered ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston. “Now consumers can enjoy Burger King fries at home, in an easy-to-prepare, microwaveable format perfect for today’s busy families.”
Burger King, based in suburban Miami, Florida, operates more than 11,900 restaurants in all 50 states and in 73 countries and US territories worldwide. Approximately 90% are owned and operated by independent franchisees, many of them family-owned units that have been in business for decades. ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston is a leading international supplier of frozen potato, sweet potato, appetizer and vegetable products, serving both the retail and foodservice industries.
McDonald’s Cuts Prices in PRC While Adding 175 New Outlets
McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast food chain, has cut some prices by up to a third in China as the nation’s export-driven economy’s growth rate has slowed amid the nagging global recession.
At the same time, it is well on its way to setting up 175 new units and creating more than 10,000 jobs this year in the PRC despite the economic downturn, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The report quoted McDonald’s China Chief Executive Jeffrey Schwartz as saying “the move will bring more opportunities for cooperation to food-related industries in China.”
McDonald’s has opened more than 1,050 outlets in China in the past two decades, according to Xinhua, which said the addition of the new stores was “the largest of its kind ever made across the world.” |
