Big Pizza Appetite: Classic Sausage Patty

Gino’s East of Chicago has added a handmade Classic Sausage Patty pizza offering to its frozen Authentic Deep Dish Pizza line. The new variety is topped with a six-ounce sausage patty.
“It uses the same legendary sausage patty recipe that made the original Gino’s East of Chicago restaurant famous when it first opened back in 1966,” said Dave Milazzo, president of Nostalgic Food Distributors, Inc. (NFDI), which has licensed the “Gino’s East of Chicago” brand for national distribution.
The Carol Stream, Illinois-based company has also begun distribution of its Spinach & Garlic Deep Dish Pizza to additional major grocery chains, including Jewel and Dominick’s. It is said to be the only frozen spinach pizza available in mainstream store freezer cases.
The Classic Sausage Patty and the Spinach & Garlic multi-serve pizzas each weigh two pounds, making them the largest frozen pizzas on the market. The Spinach & Garlic variety is also available in a 10-ounce single-serve size, which can be microwaved or oven-baked.
The two-pound Gino’s East of Chicago frozen Authentic Deep Dish pizzas are regularly priced at $9.99, with promotional prices as low as $6.99. “We have been very pro-active in keeping our pizzas value-priced for consumers,” said Mike Holmgren, chief financial officer for NFDI. “With our promotional prices, you can feed a family of four for under $10!”
Holmgren noted that the company was the first of the large pizza makers to lower promotional prices after commodity costs dropped.
Gino’s East of Chicago makes a total of seven frozen Authentic Deep Dish Pizza varieties, namely: Cheese; Sausage; Pepperoni; Sausage & Pepperoni; Supreme, featuring an abundance of meat toppings; Spinach & Garlic; and the new Classic Sausage Patty. All of the offerings, except the new Classic Sausage Patty, are also available in a single-serve portions.
Each frozen deep dish pizza is handmade at the NFDI food-processing plant in Waupaca, Wisconsin, using the same premium quality ingredients and authentic recipe with the “secret” golden crust that has made the deep dish pizzas served in Gino’s East of Chicago restaurants popular among generations of Chicagoans.
Recently a Golden Crispy Thin Crust Pizza line was rolled out. Weighing in at 17 ounces, toppings range from pepperoni, sausage, and plain cheese, to a sausage and pepperoni combination. |
