The Edeka Aktiv Markt in Rosengarten-Nenndorf has won the Cool-Cup 2008 prize for the best small frozen food department in Germany. “My aim,” said manager Herbert Meyer, “is to always have new products before everybody else has them.” That includes frozen pet food. He carries ten varieties.
The initiator of the Cool-Cup was the Deutsches Tiefkühlinstitut (dti), which awarded honors at its annual meeting in Nürnberg. There were six winners: three in the small area competition (fewer than 3,000 square meters) and three in the large area competition (more than 3,000 square meters).
The large area winner was Marktkauf in Bielefeld. Second place went to the Globus SB-Warenhaus in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, and the third place winner was the Famila-Markt in Kiel. All three of the small area winners were Edeka shops.
Second place went to the Edeka-Markt Niemerszein in Hamburg and third place to Edeka Bergmann in Lüneburg.
The jury was made up of representatives of the retail trade, the Housewives Association, the frozen food industry, equipment manufacturers and a trade magazine. Selection criteria included well tended equipment, promotional activities, customer service and innovative actions.
Niemerszein in Hamburg offers customers 900 frozen items within an area of only 40 square meters. The Globus in Neustadt presents frozen food in unusual combinations – with cold beer, for example right next to the pizza. Bergmann in Lüneburg has unusual frozen products: sliced cabbage from Denmark, original Italian Tiramisu and white chocolate ice cream, while the Marktkauf in Bielefeld offers organic food, Russian specialties and whole fish. |
