Growing Steadily Since 1999,
TKC is Ready for Next Time
Having recently acquired 50,000 square meters of additional land, Tiefkühlcenter (TKC) Everswinkel GmbH has set the stage for future expansion. And for good reason, as the refrigerated warehouse operation in Germany’s Münsterland has grown four times since 1999.
The latest extension earlier this year – which included the addition of two conveyor belts to move frozen products in and out of storage – added 6,000 pallet positions to boost capacity to 32,000. Combined with its sister coldstore in Bocholt, the total now stands at 43,000 pallets.
The Everswinkel enterprise dates back to 1991, when Albert Grosse Frie, managing director of Humana Milchindustrie (HMI), and Willem van Schipstal, managing director of Tiefkühlcenter Bocholt (TKC Bocholt), collaborated to build a facility primarily tasked with handling ice cream and other dairy products produced by HMI just across the street from the coming coldstore.
The warehouse came on line in 1992, and since then HMI has evolved to become the third largest producer of private label ice cream products in Germany. TKC, which specializes in sorting various flavors of ice cream stick items, cones and novelties into retail multi-packs for distribution during the busy spring and summer seasons, makes space available to other segments of the frozen food industry after the ice cream trade shows down in the autumn and winter months. |
