Bangladesh Exporters Want Tax Relief
Frozen seafood exporters in Bangladesh are demanding reduction
of tax at source on exports, withdrawal of value added tax (VAT)
on utility services and waiver of duty on chemicals used for
added value products.

They also seek a hassle-free environment at the customs point on
release of frozen shrimp that are returned by the buyers. The
demands were raised at a pre-budget discussion with the
country's National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) leaders
demanded tax at source should be slashed to 0.25% from existing
0.60%. Md Khalilullah, director of BFFEA and managing director
of Satkhira Foods Limited said the government should waive VAT
on electricity, gas, telephone and water bills to help the cash-
strapped sector. He also sought called for a waiver of the duty
from phosphate, non-phosphate, plain pre-dust, plain butter,
breadcrumb and all types of shrimp seasoning that are used in
shrimp to add value.
