|
| Original Rangoon Company = ORC Foods |
The Original Rangoon Company, Needham, Massachusetts,
manufacturer of frozen appetizers and other products, has changed
its name to ORC Foods, Inc., hired the founders' brother to run
the show, and launched a new line of products.
"As our product range has branched out beyond rangoons and other
appetizers, we felt that our corporate name should reflect that
change as well," said founder Greg Bukuras, in announcing the
name change and the appointment of his brother George as
president and ceo.
The Original Rangoon Company began in 1996, simply manufacturing
and selling crab rangoons. The founders, husband and wife team
Gregory and Jeanette Bukuras, built the company from a kitchen
table operation to become the recognized leader in the frozen
appetizer category.
The company's product offering has expanded over the course of 14
years to include a variety of gourmet appetizers sold under a
number of company brands including Original Rangoon, Jeanette's
All Natural, Caterer's Choice and, most recently, Falafel
Republic, as well as private label brands.
"We are continually innovating and developing new products that
bring new tastes and flavors to the palate," said Greg Bukurus.
"While the frozen appetizer category will continue to be a very
important part of our business, we see opportunities for future
growth in other product categories as well and we have some
exciting ideas presently in development."
Greg Bukuras said he invited his brother George to take the helm
for professional rather than personal reasons: "Over the past few
years we have been inundated with requests from investment funds
expressing interest in investing in our company. Having my
brother join the organization offers all of the benefits of
private equity investment without the discomfort of learning to
live with a new institutional partner. George has a very strong,
formal strategic management background. His unique combination of
skills makes him an ideal candidate to lead the company into its
next level of growth through culture change and organizational
development"
