| Oetker Gets International Pizza the Action |
Despite the recession Dr. Oetker Pizza had a successful year
internationally in 2009. Managing Director Dr. Richard Oetker
told its annual press conference that the firm had an
international turnover of 1.79 billion euros, an increase of 5.5%
over 2008.
Though the turnover in Germany was down 4.7%, it was up 16.5% in
the "Region West." It was also up in the "Region East" when
calculated in the respective currencies, but down 2% when
converted to euros. Foreign turnover accounted for 65% of
Oetkers pizza business, compared to 62% in 2008. The market
position can be improved in Canada and many other countries,
especially in the USA, Australia and South Africa, where Oetkers
ascent in the pizza market has begun.
"Market leadership in frozen pizza was achieved in two more
countries, Finland and Great Britain," said Richard Oetker. With
the acquisition of Schwan Food Dr. Oetker UK has become the
companys biggest foreign branch. The acquisition led not only to
market leadership but also to an improved earning position, since
the Schwan assortment can be produced in Schwans Leyland plant
without any exchange rate risks.
